In short
- The extension does not collect, send, or sell any information about you. What it saves stays in your own browser.
- No accounts, no ads, no analytics, no tracking.
- We never see what you watch, what you search or what the extension says out loud.
- This website uses no cookies. Like every website, it is delivered by a hosting company whose servers briefly process technical data such as your IP address.
This policy applies to everyone, wherever you live and in every browser the extension is available for.
1. Who we are
Easy AACcess is a free, non-commercial accessibility project made by two private individuals, Asritha Tunuguntla and Anna Kurgina ("we", "us"). We are responsible for the small amount of personal information described in sections 3–5.
Contact: easyaaccess.contact@gmail.com
Easy AACcess is an independent project. It is not made, endorsed or sponsored by Google, YouTube or any browser maker.
2. The extension
What it saves on your device
The extension uses the storage your browser provides for extensions to save:
- Your settings: board size and layout, scan speed, spoken scanning on/off, keyboard on/off and keyboard layout (QWERTY or ABC), so the board stays the same for its next use.
- Your last list of search results: the IDs of the videos in your latest YouTube search (the short code at the end of a video link, such as
watch?v=abc123). The NEXT button uses this list to play the next video from your own search instead of YouTube's recommendations. It is replaced every time you search.
This information stays on your device and is never sent to us. If you have turned on your browser's own sync feature, your browser may copy your settings to your other devices through your account with the browser maker (for example Google, Microsoft, or Apple), under that company's privacy policy.
What it reads but does not keep
The extension only runs on youtube.com, where it reads the following parts of the page in the moment: the video player and its buttons (such as captions and full screen), the search box, and the titles and links of videos to highlight them and read titles aloud. It also hides distracting parts of the page (such as comments and Shorts) and turns off autoplay. All of this happens inside your browser, and nothing is sent anywhere.
When you press SEARCH on the extension's keyboard, it opens YouTube's normal search page with the words you typed, exactly as if you had typed them into YouTube's own search box. The search is handled by YouTube under the Google Privacy Policy. The extension does not keep what you typed.
The extension does not access your YouTube or Google account, watch history, passwords, location, camera or microphone.
Speech
The extension speaks button names, letters, words and video titles using the text-to-speech voices built into your browser and device. It does not record or listen. It chooses a voice installed on your device whenever one is available. If none is, your browser may use an online voice, which sends the text being spoken to the browser maker to create the audio (for example, Google's online voices in Chrome).
Permissions
- Storage: to save your settings and last search list on your device.
- Access to youtube.com: to show the board and control the video player. Some browsers may ask you to allow this separately.
3. This website
This website is hosted by Netlify, Inc. When you visit, Netlify's servers automatically process the technical information your browser sends with every request (IP address, date and time, page requested, browser and device type) to deliver the page and protect it against attacks. Netlify does this on our behalf, and keeps server logs according to the Netlify Privacy Policy. We do not use this information to identify visitors.
This website does not use cookies, analytics, advertising, social media buttons, embedded videos, or fonts or scripts loaded from other companies.
4. If you email us
We use your email address and message only to answer you. Your email is stored by our email provider, Google (Gmail), and may be read by either of us. We delete support emails once the conversation is finished, and at the latest after 12 months, unless the law requires us to keep them longer.
5. Donations
You can choose to support the project through Ko-fi. The donation link takes you to Ko-fi's website, where Ko-fi and its payment providers handle the payment under the Ko-fi Privacy Policy. We never see your card or bank details. We receive only what Ko-fi shares with creators (for example, the name and message you enter and, depending on Ko-fi's settings, your email address), and use it only to thank you and to keep records the law requires. Donating is optional and does not change how the extension works.
6. What we never do
- Collect or receive any information from the extension. The extension does not talk to any server of ours.
- Use analytics, crash reporting, advertising, tracking, or fingerprinting.
- Sell, rent, or share personal information, or use it for targeted advertising.
- Collect health or disability information. Using an AAC tool tells us nothing, because we receive nothing from the extension.
- Use information to build profiles, make automated decisions about you, or train artificial intelligence.
- Hand over any information we hold (such as an email you sent us), unless the law requires it.
Chrome Web Store: the use of information received by Easy AACcess complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. The extension handles information only to provide its single purpose, making YouTube accessible for AAC users, and does not transfer it to anyone.
7. Other companies
The extension works on YouTube, inside a browser made by another company. Those companies handle your information under their own privacy policies, which we do not control: for example Google (YouTube and Chrome), Microsoft (Edge) and Apple (Safari).
8. Children
People of all ages use AAC, and children may use the extension with help from a parent, caregiver, or therapist. YouTube has its own age rules; make sure a child's use of YouTube follows them.
9. Keeping and deleting information
- Settings stay until you change them or remove the extension. The search list is replaced with every search.
- Removing the extension deletes everything it saved on that device. Settings copied by your browser's sync can be removed in your browser's sync settings.
- Emails and donation records are kept as described in sections 4 and 5.
Because the extension's information never reaches us, we cannot see or delete it for you. It is fully under your control.
10. Your rights, wherever you live
Whatever country you live in, you can ask us:
- whether we hold any personal information about you, and for a copy of it;
- to correct it, delete it, or stop or limit how we use it;
- to explain how and why we use it.
In practice, the only personal information we might hold is an email you sent us or donation details from Ko-fi. Write to easyaaccess.contact@gmail.com, and we will answer within 30 days. If we cannot fulfil your request, we will tell you why.
You can also complain to the data protection or privacy authority in the country where you live. If the law where you live gives you more rights than those listed here, we will respect them.
11. Where information is processed
The extension's information stays on your own device. This website is delivered by Netlify from servers in the United States and other countries. Emails may also be read outside the European Union, including in the United States. These countries may have privacy laws that differ from those where you live. Section 14 explains how we protect information sent from the European Union.
12. Security
The extension's information is kept in your browser's protected extension storage and is never sent over the internet by the extension. This website is served only over an encrypted connection (HTTPS).
13. Changes to this policy
If anything changes that affects your privacy, we will update this page and its "Last updated" date before the change takes effect, and mention it in the extension's release notes. We will never start collecting information without updating this policy first and, where the law requires it, asking for your consent.
14. Legal details for specific regions
The sections above apply to everyone. Some laws ask for extra details, which are listed here.
European Union, EEA and United Kingdom (GDPR / UK GDPR)
- Controllers: the two makers named in section 1 are joint controllers (Article 26 GDPR).
- Legal bases: website server logs and answering emails are based on our legitimate interest in running a secure website and replying to you (Article 6(1)(f)). Donation records are kept to meet legal obligations (Article 6(1)(c)).
- Information saved by the extension is stored only on your device because the extension needs it to work. It is never sent to us.
- Transfers outside the EU: Netlify is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (Article 45 GDPR). If you email us, your message may be read in the United States, where the law may not protect personal data in the same way as EU law.
- Your rights (Articles 15–21): access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection and data portability.
- Complaints: you can complain to the data protection authority where you live or work.
United States
- We do not sell or share personal information, or use it for targeted advertising, as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) and other state privacy laws.
- We do not disclose personal information to anyone for their direct marketing.
- We do not collect consumer health data.
- We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
- "Do Not Track" and Global Privacy Control: neither the extension nor this website tracks you over time or across websites, so they work the same whether or not your browser sends these signals.
